I bought this pair of brass candlesticks last week and knew immediately what to do with them.
It is the first time I have painted on to metal with chalk paint before, though I knew it was possible. The first coat doesn’t cover very well and so you really need a good thick second coat. I am sure that it will chip off a little on the edges with time, but the brass showing through will only add to the effect.
To begin with I painted a couple of coats of Annie Sloan’s Graphite Chalk Paint and then added the decorative detail using Old White. I love the graphic quality of this colour combination. To finish, clear wax was applied with a brush, followed by a soft buffing with a clean cloth.
What do you think? I’d love to hear from you.
