When I was designing prints and embroideries for girls wear at M&S we would often try to incorporate little surprises into the garments. Something hidden underneath a pocket flap, or a pretty ribbon sewn inside the waist of a trouser. Children love surprises and secrets, but then lets face it most of us like a little surprise.
This side cupboard has been painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen with a second coat in Old White. The interior is painted in French Linen. I have applied both clear and dark wax to the exterior and then sanded the edges quite heavily to create a lovely aged effect. I really like this cupboard, but I couldn’t say that I have never seen anything like it before and I wouldn’t say I felt excited by it.
Cue my Agra Stencil to add some interest! There have already been a couple of people in the shop who have opened the door and let out a little gasp of surprise. Just the reaction I was after.
