This old chest was bought a while ago from a big open air furniture fair in Kent. My partner took the day off work and we drove down early in the morning. It was freezing and drizzly and most of the stall holders looked utterly miserable! The first thing we did was buy hot coffee and fantastic bacon sandwiches which lifted our spirits.
I painted and stencilled the chest in Graphite and Old Grey and then, as with the Antibes Green chest, I painted over the whole design, this time using Annie Sloan’s Provence chalk paint. It was sanded like crazy in the garden to reveal the design below. There is something really beautiful and unpredictable about the effect achieved.
