I bought this writing bureau on a recent trip to my parents. It has been a bit of a labour of love as it has taken a long time to complete, but I am really pleased with the finished product.
It was painted with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Old Ochre, followed by a top coat of Graphite on the exterior. The interior has a top coat of Old Ochre. The paint was applied really thickly and it was then sanded vigorously. I even used a screw driver to knock bits of paint off the edges by the hinges.
Most of my painted furniture has been decorated with stencil design in a really visible way, but I wanted this piece to be fairly plain with a little suprise when you pull down the writing table. I finished it last week and every once in a while since when I have walked past it, I have opened it up just to see the decoration.
