I spotted this sweet old school desk in the driveway of a house with a sold sign outside. I knocked on the door and a very sweet woman told me it had been in the garage for years and her children were all grown up now. It was in a bit of a state and I don’t think she could understand why I wanted it, but seemed pleased that it wasn’t going to end up at the tip.
There was some grafitti on the inside and West Ham (football club) had been scribbled in child’s writing. It seemed a shame to paint over it, but at least I photographed it before hand.
I painted a coat of Annie Sloan’s Old White Chalk Paint to begin with followed by Louis Blue. A while ago I printed some T-shirts with a skull design which were really sweet and so I recreated my design as a stencil. I applied the skull and pattern with Old White and then applied several coats of clear wax
I am quite in love with this piece and can imagine two little siblings keeping their special things in their own desk. I also love the fact that it has been saved from destruction.
Cute! The skulls are completely unexpected, but super fun!
Thanks for your comment. I specifically wanted to do something which wasn’t obvious, because there is so much obvious stuff already out there for children.
