Etsy Edit – Global Tiles

When I  graduated from college, I had a job hand painting tiles.There were five people working in a tiny studio.  Apart from me, everybody was continually plugged into their head phones. I worked there for six months and I don’t think I ever had a proper conversation with anybody!

There is something really beautiful about the  luminous colour and the clever repeating patterns found in tiles, especially in vintage tiles. We once visited the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. The whole interior is covered in decorative tiles and the amount of human toil  involved in creating such a place is quite staggering.
